How we claimed £13,200 in capital allowances for a Grays haulage business
Client K runs a haulage and distribution business from a Grays depot serving the London Gateway and Thames corridor, with a fleet of HGVs and vans plus warehouse equipment. The Ltd company had invested in vehicles and racking, but the previous bookkeeper had simply expensed routine costs and hadn't identified the substantial capital allowances available on the fleet and equipment.
We reviewed the capital expenditure. The commercial vehicles, HGVs, trailers, racking and forklift qualified for capital allowances, with the Annual Investment Allowance and, for qualifying new plant, full expensing for companies (cars have separate emissions-based rules, which we applied correctly). We claimed the allowances across the open periods, significantly reducing Corporation Tax, and reviewed the fleet running costs and driver payroll for further efficiency.
