How we got an Archway Whittington nurse £2,400 back on uniform and professional costs
Client K is a senior nurse at the Whittington with some agency shifts on the side. She'd never filed a self-assessment despite the agency income, didn't realise she could claim tax relief on her professional costs, and had been paying full tax on the agency work through emergency tax codes.
We registered her for self-assessment, reported the agency income correctly alongside her PAYE Whittington salary, and claimed the tax relief she was due: NMC registration fee, professional indemnity, uniform laundering allowance, and the relevant professional subscriptions and CPD costs. We also corrected her tax code so the agency work was no longer over-taxed going forward, and reclaimed the over-paid emergency tax from prior periods.
