How we claimed £31,000 in R&D tax credits for a Guildford games studio
Client R co-founded a video-games studio in Guildford's tech cluster, set up as a Ltd company developing original game technology. They were loss-making while building the product and had no idea they could claim R&D tax credits on the substantial technical development work, nor that they could access the enhanced relief for R&D-intensive companies.
We assessed the development work against the R&D definition, the studio was resolving genuine technical uncertainty in its game engine, rendering and networking technology, which qualified. We identified the qualifying costs (developer salaries, software, a proportion of overheads), wrote the technical narrative, and submitted the claim under the merged R&D scheme with the enhanced support for R&D-intensive SMEs.
