How we claimed £13,000 in capital allowances for a Larne logistics firm
Client K runs a freight and logistics business operating through the Port of Larne, with a fleet of vehicles, trailers and handling equipment. The Ltd company had invested heavily in the fleet, but the previous bookkeeper had simply expensed routine costs and hadn't identified the substantial capital allowances available, nor handled the GB-NI VAT movements cleanly.
We reviewed the capital expenditure and the VAT. The commercial vehicles, trailers, handling equipment and IT qualified for capital allowances — with the Annual Investment Allowance and full expensing for companies. We claimed the allowances across the open periods, reviewed the GB-NI goods movements under the Windsor Framework for correct VAT treatment, and tightened the fleet-cost and driver-payroll management.
