How we claimed £16,500 in capital allowances for a Bermondsey Beer Mile brewery
Client R co-founded a brewery and taproom on the Bermondsey Beer Mile, set up as a Ltd company. They'd invested heavily in brewing kit, fermentation tanks, a canning line and the taproom fit-out, but the bookkeeper had simply expensed routine costs and hadn't identified the substantial capital allowances available on the plant and equipment.
We reviewed the capital expenditure. The brewing tanks, canning line, cold store, bar equipment and qualifying fit-out all qualified for capital allowances, much of it eligible for the Annual Investment Allowance (100%) or full expensing for companies. We claimed the allowances across the open periods, significantly reducing Corporation Tax, set up proper accounting for the taproom and wholesale sales, and handled the beer duty correctly.
