How we structured a Borehamwood film freelancer's affairs for £11,200 saving
Client M is a Borehamwood-based freelance camera operator and lighting technician working on productions at Elstree and other studios, through a Ltd company, with a mix of production contracts, occasional PAYE engagements and some equipment hire income. The income streams weren't coordinated, the company remuneration was inefficient, and IR35 hadn't been assessed on the production contracts.
We coordinated everything. We assessed and documented the IR35 status of the production contracts (most genuinely outside given the project-based, multi-client, equipment-providing nature of the work), claimed capital allowances on his camera and lighting equipment, optimised the company remuneration to salary plus dividends, set up an employer pension contribution, and ensured the equipment-hire income was reported correctly.
