How we got an East Finchley contractor £7,100 a year through proper structure
Client R is an IT contractor living in East Finchley working through a Ltd company on contracts with City clients. He'd set the company up himself and was running it inefficiently — salary set too high triggering unnecessary NIC, no dividend planning, no pension contributions, and no documented IR35 assessment of his contracts.
We reviewed everything. We confirmed and documented that his current contracts were outside IR35 (genuine substitution rights, no mutuality of obligation, control over delivery), restructured his remuneration to salary at the NIC-optimal level plus dividends, and set up an employer pension contribution of £20,000 a year to his SIPP — tax-deductible for the company and a highly efficient extraction. We timed dividend declarations across tax years to manage his higher-rate exposure.
