How we helped a Hackney Wick brewery claim £14,000 in capital allowances
Client R co-founded a craft brewery and taproom in a Hackney Wick warehouse unit, set up as a Ltd company. They'd invested heavily in brewing equipment, tanks, a canning line and the taproom fit-out, but the previous bookkeeper had simply expensed what they could and hadn't identified the substantial capital allowances available on the plant and equipment.
We reviewed the capital expenditure. The brewing tanks, canning line, cold store, bar equipment and qualifying fit-out elements all qualified for capital allowances, much of it eligible for the Annual Investment Allowance (100% relief) or full expensing for companies. We claimed the allowances across the open periods, significantly reducing the Corporation Tax, and set up proper cloud accounting to track the mixed taproom (standard-rated) and wholesale (standard-rated) sales with the beer duty handled correctly.
